Problems with the Democrats? Oh yeah, you've got them.
They seem to need to be begged to do the right thing, over and over again. They leave us wondering if they believe in what they said they cared about when they were in the minority. What's up with that?
It seems that Congress still acts as if there are conservative supermajorities in both chambers. As someone who did my part and gave 'til it hurt in 2006 to wrest power from congressional Republicans, it feels like a hit to the gut. You probably know exactly what I mean.
One of the many reasons (and by reasons, I mean Democrats who don't deserve the name) for our collective unease is Rep. Dan Lipinski. Look at what Down With Tyranny said about Lipinski, representing the safe, blue, 3rd District of Illinois. The guy is:
- anti-choice (has a 0% rating from Planned Parenthood and a 100% rating from the National Life to Right Committee)
- anti-stem cell research
- supported government intervention in the Terri Schaivo case
- supports a constitutional amendment against flag burning
- voted against a bill that would have set a withdrawal deadline in Iraq and voted for the Iraq war supplemental
Lipinski's such a reactionary zenophobe that he's officially lost himself the endorsement of even the Chicago machine-beholden Rep. Luis Gutierrez. What should a 'Democrat' expect when he votes with Sensenbrenner and Tancredo on immigration?
That's why we here at BlogPAC have endorsed Lipinski's progressive challenger, Mark Pera, who's at the top of the Blue Majority fundraising page, by sending a fundraising appeal to our email list this week. (Which you can sign up for at the top right of this very page!)
It feels good to send Lieberdems like Lipinski packing, and even better when we can do it by supporting a quality candidate like Pera. The Illinois primary is on February 5th, only a few short days away, and Pera could use your support right now. That better Democratic party you've been hoping for could use your support right now. It won't exist unless people like you invest in it.
And when you give to Mark Pera, that's exactly what you're doing: investing in a better Democratic party.
In advance ... Thank you!
